Yes, welcome to the place to locate the members of the Hickey family originally from County Clare, from a village called Ballyhickey ,links to Shallee Castle (picure at top), The castle was built by Conor na Sróna in the late 15th Century. Conor sided with the Butlers against the Fitzgeralds of Kildare, and in 1496 the Earl of Kildare marched to Thomond to punish Conor. The two armies met at Ballyhickey and Conor put the Earl's armies to flight. Brian Dubh O'Brien then inherited Shallee but later lost it to Teige O'Brien, and later still it passed into the ownership of the O'Deas. During the Troubles the IRA intended to use the castle as a base for an ambush on a convoy, but the convoy was rerouted and the ambush was called off, us Hickey's have many worriers and kings behind us including WILLIAM THE CONQUEROR .
